Do you consider yourself poor, rich or somewhere in between? Do your thoughts have anything to do with your real-life experience and circumstances? Why is it that even in the darkest of financial times, some people continue to prosper while others lose all that they have and end up broke and broken?
In case you haven't noticed, the economy is cyclic. There are up times when most people seem to prosper and do well financially; there are down times when most people seem to struggle just to survive. Notice, I said "most" people in both cases.
Have you noticed that even in the best of times, there are those who struggle financially, those who can't seem to find or keep a job, those who just barely get by? On the other hand, even in the worst of times, there are those who rise to the top and prosper against all odds. I believe a person's mentality makes all the difference.
"The more difficult the situation is, the higher you will rise if you think correctly about it."~Harriet Hale Rix, The Rich Mentality
If you can control your thoughts, your speech and your actions, and bring them into submission to the Word of God, you can master your circumstances, rise above them, and nothing will be able to hold or bind you. In a very real sense, prosperity has nothing to do with your possessions.
Prosperity is a way of thinking. So is poverty. You are poor if you believe yourself to be poor, and you are rich if you can think rich thoughts; thoughts that are constructive, optimistic and unlimited.
A lot has been written on this topic: Think and Grow Rich, As a Man Thinketh, The Secret, The Law of Attraction... the list goes on and on. [However, the Bible is the paramount authority on the topic.]
This is not a secret, but an age-old truth and a biblical principle. We tend to become what we think. If we think doom and gloom, worry and fear on a regular basis, that is what we will experience in our daily lives. (Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.~Galations 6:7)
I know there are a lot of people who don't believe this. Many people have "tried" it and then abandoned it when it "didn't work" for them.
The law of sowing and reaping isn't an experiment that you try for a short time and expect to see drastic change. Compare it to real-world sowing and reaping. A farmer prepares the soil, plants the seed, nurtures and protects the crop, and then after a time, reaps the harvest.
Our problem is that we want to plant the seed and then go out there the next day and eat out of our garden. If we don't see anything sprouting from the ground, we want to dig up the seed and see if anything is happening underground. Or, we fail to nurture and protect our garden, and weeds spring up and choke out the seed we planted.
Have you noticed that weeds grow and thrive all on their own? The same is true with our thought life. We have a tendency to continue to think the same old limiting beliefs and thought patterns that got us into our mess when we should be casting down imaginations and bringing every thought into obedience (2nd Corinthians 10:5). You need to weed your thought garden if you want to reap a harvest.
Watch your thoughts today. When you have a negative, limiting thought, refuse to dwell on it. Cast it down and bring in into obedience by replacing it with a prosperous thought. Life is what you make it. Learn to develop a rich mentality, and you will experience wealth and prosperity in every area of your life.
